Girls On The Run

Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self respect and healthy lifestyles through running. The curricula address all aspects of girls’ development – their physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well being.

Our Development:

August 2009 – GOTR of Saginaw County filed their application

May 2010 – Our inaugural group of girls from Carrollton Elementary ran their first race, “Run for Poverty”

November 2010 – We added Frankenmuth in the fall and they ran during the Saginaw Pride holiday parade

April 2011 – Our third graduating class completed the Lions Club Leader dog for the blind 5K

Summer 2011 – We kicked off two summer programs at First Ward Community Center, 1410 N. 12th in Saginaw and the YMCA of Saginaw, 1915 Fordney in Saginaw. The summer sessions culminated with the Michigan CardioVascular Institute Run in September

Fall 2011 – We welcomed three additional schools: Freeland, and two in the city of Saginaw, Handley & Stone. Five schools will be completing their program with the run at the beginning of the Saginaw Pride holiday parade in November
